Several Christmas events planned in Macon in December

A number of events are planned through Dec. 12 in downtown Macon to celebrate Christmas and the holiday season.

The festivities, sponsored by Main Street Macon, will focus on families and continue holiday traditions.

First up this Saturday is Small Business Saturday. Most downtown businesses will be open with special deals and discounts.

Then, on Dec. 3, the Bibb County Board of Education will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. at the City Auditorium. Nearly 250 students will sing Christmas carols, and the tree lighting will be held in Rosa Parks Square.

The Main Street Macon Christmas Parade is planned for 3 p.m Dec. 6. The parade will feature marching bands, floats and Santa Claus. Bibb County schools Superintendent Curtis Jones is the grand marshal.

Finally, on Dec. 12, Rosa Parks Square will play host to Christmas on First Street, from 4-10 p.m. There will be free pictures with Santa, a bounce house, craft beer and snow, according to the release.
