A head-on collision in south Macon ended one man's life Monday.

Brandon Harrell, 31, was heading south on Pio Nono Avenue in a white Toyota Camry about 4:30 p.m., but after he passed through the intersection with Broadway and Houston Avenue, his path changed.

"For some unknown reason, he crosses the median and struck a black Cadillac heading north," said Eddie Moskaly with the Georgia State Patrol.

Harrell, who was from Macon, had to be cut from the vehicle and died in the operating room at the Medical Center, Navicent Health from "major internal injuries," Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said. He was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m.

Harrell's change in direction wasn't the only mystery at the accident scene. Even though he wasn't at fault, the driver of the black car that had been heading north quickly left the area.

"He gets out and runs," Moskaly said, noting that he was still looking for the second driver.

Anyone with any further information about the accident or the driver of the Cadillac is asked to call Georgia State Patrol at 478-993-3001.
