Dodge County man dies after daring fire rescue

Three men were going down Old Jacksonville in Rhine when they noticed a mobile home fire Friday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m. they kicked in the door and led 55-year-old Gary Lynn Williamson to safety, said Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith.

"Mr. Williamson was in the living room floor and he was talking to them," Smith said.

His arms had been burned, but the rescuers led him out.

He did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The single-wide trailer was a total loss.

Williamson had been home sick from his job with the Dodge County Transit System and was alone at the time of the fire, Smith said.

Authorities are investigating the source of the blaze.
