Taxi erupts in flames outside Macon Krystal
Flames destroyed a Macon taxi just after 4:15 p.m. Monday.
Mike Hollingshed had just dropped off Angela Collins for work at the Krystal on Bloomfield Road and went inside to use the restroom.
While in the restaurant, Hollingshed’s cab started smoking. He had time to grab his backpack before the engine flared in flames.
Within two minutes, the Yellow Cab car was engulfed.
Larry Anderson was working inside the restaurant when he noticed the smoke and alerted his co-workers. They fled the restaurant and sought refuge on a hill behind the parking lot.
Exploding tires startled the onlookers, and sparks shot out from the burning vehicle.
Macon–Bibb County firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which was about a block from fire station No. 8.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Hollingshed said the car had been running fine, and he did not immediately know what started the blaze.
