Miss America Betty Cantrell coming to UGA for Miss Georgia crowning

Miss America Betty Cantrell will be returning home to Georgia in time for the crowning of the new Miss Georgia.

The state pageant announced that Adeline Kenerly, a University of Georgia majorette and first runner-up when Cantrell won the pageant this summer in Columbus, will be crowned in Sanford Stadium during the UGA vs. Alabama football game.

The Oct. 3 event is billed as the largest live audience ever for a state crowning.

Her boyfriend, Greyson Lambert, also knows a thing or two about breaking records between the hedges in Athens.

The Bulldogs’ quarterback set a new NCAA standard with a 96 percent pass completion rate in Saturday’s blowout win over South Carolina. Lambert also broke a school record with 20 consecutive pass completions in a single game.

Kenerly, a 21-year-old baton twirler from Jesup who marches with the Redcoat Band, is also making national headlines for her relationship with Jesup’s Lambert, who transferred from the University of Virginia. They attended Wayne County High School together.

She will assume the Miss Georgia title now that Cantrell is serving as Miss America.

Miss Georgia 2014, Maggie Bridges, who crowned Cantrell, will also be in Athens to crown Kenerly. who is majoring in broadcast journalism and political science at UGA.

Kenerly’s platform is Transitioning Troops: Support for America’s Heroes.

Although Kenerly was announced as Miss Georgia on Sept. 16, her official crowning will take place during halftime festivities next month.
