3-year-old Jones County boy falls from SUV, dies

A 3-year-old Jones County boy died Sunday night when he apparently fell from an SUV that he may have put in gear and was run over, authorities said.

Joseph Barfield Jr. was pronounced dead at a Macon hospital about 9 p.m., roughly an hour after the incident, said Wade Powers, a deputy Jones coroner.

The incident, which involved a GMC Yukon, happened at a house on Parker Road near Wells Elementary just northeast of Macon.

Powers said the matter was still being investigated and further details were not immediately available.
