Pedestrian struck in Macon hit-and-run has died

A 38-year-old Macon man run over by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night has died.

The victim, Antonial Tantce White, was hit shortly before 9 p.m. on Pio Nono Avenue near Carroll Street. He died about 10:35 p.m. at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to witnesses, White was crossing northbound lanes on Pio Nono Avenue with his dog. At that moment, a northbound vehicle hit the dog. When White stopped to help the dog, a black Cadillac Escalade, also headed north on Pio Nono, hit White, then kept going after the collision.

The dog, which sustained a broken ankle, was taken to the Macon-Bibb Animal Shelter.

Fatality investigators are seeking the public’s help in locating the Escalade. It has large after-market rims and a Florida license plate. There should be damage to the front of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 751-7500.
