The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-month-old who was found in a swimming pool Thursday evening.

An 18-month-old boy was pronounced dead Thursday evening after he was found in a swimming pool, according to Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.

The incident happened in the 1200 block of Scotland Ave, where the baby was found floating in the pool by a relative. The boy was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Children’s Hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m., Jones said.

The Telegraph contacted the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office on Friday to ask if anyone had been arrested or charged in connection with the case. A sheriff’s office spokesperson referred questions to the Macon-Bibb Fire Department.

Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Shane Edwards confirmed firefighters responded to the scene but said no additional information is available at this time. He said local law enforcement is handling the investigation.

The sheriff’s office later said the investigation is ongoing.
