Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday to a residence in the Shady Road area after being alerted about the incident, according to a news release.

The child’s father was working on a vehicle when the child’s mother attempted to start it, according to a preliminary investigation. The vehicle, which was equipped with a manual transmission, reportedly jerked forward and pinned the child between another vehicle.

Anna Watkins, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said the boy was standing outside the car before the incident occurred.

Watkins said law enforcement can not provide additional context on the extent of the child’s injuries at this time. He was transported by life flight to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment.

Authorities said this investigation is ongoing.
