Deputies discovered a dead person in a homeless encampment on Houston Road in Macon, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

The person was found at 10:45 p.m. Sunday in a shed used as a shelter in a wooded area of the 5200 block of Houston Road, deputies said.

“The identity and the length of time the body was in the area (have) yet to be determined,” deputies said. “According to Coroner Leon Jones, the body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab to be examined to determine the identity of the person.”

The incident is under investigation. Deputies urged anyone with information to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
