12 hospitalized after multi-car crash on I-75 in Monroe County

Twelve people were transported to local hospitals, including three with life-threatening injuries, following a multiple-vehicle crash Thursday morning on I-75 in Monroe County.

The crashes involved one travel bus, four tractor-trailer trucks and 11 passenger vehicles, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Monroe County Dispatch received the call around 11:42 a.m. regarding multiple vehicle collisions on I-75 southbound near mile marker 180, just before the rest area, authorities said.

Authorities said the scene remains active.

There is currently no estimated time for reopening the portion of the interstate. Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid the area if possible.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s website said emergency responders are on scene working as quickly and as safely as possible to reopen lanes.
