Car involved in crash that left 2 dead in Monroe County stolen from Orlando, deputies say
Two people died in a crash Tuesday morning while fleeing from Monroe County deputies attempting to conduct a traffic stop, according to a news release from the county’s sheriff’s office.
Deputies attempted the stop on I-75 near mile marker 190 Tuesday morning, the news release said. The driver of a dark sedan, accompanied by one passenger, fled, which led deputies to pursue the pair.
However, deputies stopped following the car as it “cut across the median on I-75 going north in the southbound lane, striking another vehicle,” deputies said in the news release. The driver and passenger in the car that fled from deputies died.
Their identities have not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
“The passenger in the vehicle that was struck by the fleeing vehicle was taken to a Macon hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the news release said. “Debris from the wreck struck another vehicle and the driver of that vehicle was taken to a Macon hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
In an updated news release Tuesday afternoon, Monroe County deputies said the car involved in the chase was stolen out of Orange County, Fla., where Orlando is the county seat.
More information will be released as information becomes available, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
