Movie starring Glen Powell to film on Macon’s Mercer University campus
Mercer University’s front gate will be used to film “Comeback King” next week, and the filming will cause some street closures, according to a notification from Tap Out Productions.
“Comeback King,” directed by Judd Apatow, is about a country-western star navigating their career after a “dramatic downfall.” It will film at Mercer University’s front gate on 1300 College St. from May 5 through May 7, according to the filming notification and IMDB. The movie stars Glen Powell, Cristin Milioti and Madelyn Cline.
Coleman Avenue’s parking lanes will close on both sides in front of the gate, according to the filming notification.
“In addition, the sidewalk along Coleman Avenue adjacent to the Mercer front gate between College Drive Lane and Adam Street will be closed,” the filming notification stated. “The sidewalk adjacent to the Tattnall Square Park will have intermittent pedestrian holds as needed.”
Preparation for filming will take place on May 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The production company will place “Emergency No Parking” signs “for our production vehicles and equipment to stage around our set safely,” the notification said.
The production company will film on May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. There will be intermittent traffic control on Coleman Avenue between Shamrock and Adam streets, as well as College and Hazel streets. Traffic “will be held no longer than a standard traffic light cycle,” according to the filming notification.
However, traffic will be held when filming starts, including rolling and cutting, “to ensure the safety of our cast and crew,” the notification said. The production company will film after the morning drop-off and after-school pickup to avoid conflict with Alexander II Magnet School’s schedule.
“Please note, throughout our time in the neighborhood, we will conduct activities in a manner (that) does not block driveways, always allowing you and your guests access to and from your home or business,” the filming notification said. “It is our goal to minimize any inconvenience that may occur during our visit. Macon-Bibb County Sheriff deputies will be present during these activities to assist with traffic control and public safety.”
