Two Irwinton women ejected, killed in car crash
Two Irwinton women were killed Tuesday when they were ejected from a vehicle that flipped multiple times near Toomsboro in Wilkinson County.
A 43-year-old Irwinton man was driving a Lincoln Navigator about 7:30 p.m., headed south on Poplar Springs Church Road near its intersection with Ga. 112, said Georgia State Patrol Cpl. David Bryant.
The vehicle veered off the road while its driver negotiated a curve. It overturned several times, Bryant said.
The driver and his front-seat passenger were wearing seatbelts, he said.
Back seat passengers 72-year-old Daisy Dell Sims and 67-year-old JoAnn Johnson, both of Irwinton, were ejected and killed, Bryant said.
The driver, front-seat passenger, an unrestrained 10-year-old sitting in the third row and a 6-year-old who wore a seat belt, also in the third row, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said.
The cause of the crash was still being investigated late Wednesday afternoon.
