Man dies after being struck by car on Pio Nono Ave, Macon deputies say

Deputies are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Pio Nono Avenue on Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

James Milburn Evan Jr., 57, died after being hit by a BMW in a crash that occurred on Pio Nono Avenue, according to the news release. It occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of a BMW sedan, who was driving north on Pio Nono Avenue, turned into the center lane to “avoid another driver turning right onto Pio Nono Avenue from Ell Street,” the news release from BSO said.

“Upon entering the center lane, the driver of the BMW struck a fifty-seven-year-old male pedestrian (who) was walking in the roadway, wearing dark clothing,” the news release said.

Evans was taken to a hospital by an ambulance. Medical staff then reported that he died. The next of kin has been notified, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley in the BSO news release.

The incident is under investigation. Deputies urge anyone with information to contact BSO at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
