24-year-old inmate identified, found dead at Bibb County Jail
A man charged in a 2023 homicide died in the Bibb County Jail Thursday, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Correctional deputies and medical staff were completing morning medication rounds around 8:30 a.m. when they found the 24-year-old man unresponsive in his cell, deputies said in a news release.
Quintavious Vincent Johnson was “in a cell by himself,” when they found him, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph. His cause of death was unclear.
Though life-saving measures were provided by jail medical staff and emergency medical technicians, Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:30 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, deputies said.
His body will be autopsied Friday morning due to this being an in-custody death, Jones said. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s Internal Affairs investigators will investigate the incident, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was notified.
Johnson’s family members were notified of his death around 11 a.m., according to Jones.
“Further information will be released as the investigation permits,” deputies said.
Johnson faced charges connected to the killing of Kealan Tre Hardeman, 20, on Nov. 18, 2023, the sheriff’s office previously said.
He was charged with murder, pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another person and aggravated assault, according to a log of detainees at the Bibb County Jail. He was booked on Jan. 30, 2024.
