A bomb threat against Stratford Academy in Macon on Tuesday was determined to be a hoax, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Stratford received the hoax call around 3 p.m. Someone with a “strange voice” told the caller there was a bomb at the school before hanging up, said Sgt. Christopher Williams, spokesperson for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The school buildings were evacuated by 3:30 p.m., and investigators conducted a sweep to “ensure the area is safe,” Williams said. Members of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and Emergency Medical Technicians were on standby.

By 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the campus was “cleared of any threat,” according to Williams.

School officials confirmed that classes at Stratford Academy resumed Wednesday morning.
