The Historic Macon Foundation named a new executive director Thursday to replace former Executive Director Nathan Lott, who resigned in December, according to a news release.

The new executive director is Emily Hopkins, 36, who is currently the vice president of external affairs at NewTown Macon. She also serves on the boards of the Georgia Downtown Association and Visit Macon, according to the news release.

Hopkins previously worked with Historic Macon until she departed in 2017 to run the Main Street program, now housed within NewTown Macon. During Hopkins’ time with NewTown Macon, the organization won a nationally-coveted award for its efforts to revitalize the downtown area.

“I began my career at Historic Macon Foundation, and it was there that I learned what effective, community-centered preservation can accomplish,” Hopkins said in the release. “I am honored to return in this role and work alongside the board, staff, members and partners to build on Historic Macon’s legacy while continuing to push forward innovative strategies that preserve our historic places and strengthen our neighborhoods.”

Hopkins will begin her role on Feb. 2.
