An employee for Ryland Environmental was killed Saturday morning after being hit by a Ryland garbage truck, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the incident at the intersection of Ridge and Hartley avenues just before 10:15 a.m.

“It was reported that the motorist of a 2022 Mack Terrapro was reversing in the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “While reversing, a forty-five-year-old male pedestrian behind the vehicle was struck.”

The victim was taken to a hospital but later died, the sheriff office said. He was identified as Chad Williams.

Coroner Leon Jones confirmed to The Telegraph that the victim worked for Ryland and the truck was a Ryland vehicle. The victim’s family has been notified.

“The accident is currently being investigated,” the sheriff’s office said. “At this time, no charges have been made. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.”
