Officials investigate after 5-year-old dies in Houston County on Christmas Day

A 5-year-old child who fell ill died on Christmas Day, according to Houston County Coroner James Williams, and now her death is under investigation.

The girl was taken to Emory Healthcare in Warner Robins by her parents around 7 p.m. on Dec. 25 after becoming ill. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital, Williams said. It is unclear what illness she had before dying.

Her death is being investigated by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Investigations Division and the county’s coroner’s office, according to Williams and Sheriff Matthew Moulton.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, Williams said.

No foul play was suspected as of Tuesday, according to Lt. Darin Meadows.
