A 66-year-old Bonaire man died Monday evening more than a week after he was thrown from his car on Interstate 75 South.

Ed Boland was pronounced dead of a head injury at 5 p.m. Monday at Medical Center, Navicent Health.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, Boland was headed south in the middle lane when he began to pass a Toyota Sienna ahead of him just past the Hardeman Avenue exit, deputies said.

Boland’s 1999 Chevrolet Suburban clipped the minivan, hit the guardrail on the right side of the highway, then shot across the interstate into the cement divider near the Napier Avenue overpass. He was critically injured when he was ejected through the passenger window when the vehicle hit the guardrail. The 51-year-old Warner Robins man driving the Toyota, and his passengers, were not seriously injured.
