Homeless man identified after he was killed in train crash in Macon, coroner says

A homeless man was struck and killed by a train in Macon Monday morning, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

The death was being investigated as suicide, Sgt. Christopher Williams of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 911 call reported the incident around 4:30 a.m. when the man was “discovered on the train tracks” near Arkwright Road, Williams said.

Deputies and investigators responded to the scene, Williams said.

The victim was identified as 40-year-old Jeffery Rainey, and his family was notified of his death by 10 a.m., Coroner Leon Jones said.

Georgia Central Railway, which manages the tracks, did not immediately respond to The Telegraph’s request for comment.
