Nichiha manufacturing plant lays off workers as it closes one Macon location
Nichiha USA closed one of its manufacturing plants in Macon, affecting employees’ jobs, according to a news release.
The wall panel manufacturing company closed its residential business manufacturing plant on Monday, with the decision coming “after a thorough review of the company’s long-term business priorities and future business competitiveness,” according to the release.
Its goals for the business are unknown as of Wednesday. Nichiha further said in their release that its employees have been laid off as a result.
“Nichiha USA expressed its deep appreciation for the dedication and contributions of all employees and confirmed that support will be provided to those directly affected during this transition,” the release said.
Some Nichiha operations will move
Some of the functions in the residential business manufacturing plant will transition to Nichiha’s other facility in Macon, which focuses on the commercial structures business. That plant “will continue to operate and serve as the hub for Nichiha USA’s future growth and expansion,” the release said.
However, the company will remain in the residential and commercial markets, the release said. Nichiha will “strengthen its presence” in the residential sector through architectural wall panels, which are easily installable and mimic materials like wood, concrete or brick.
As for the commercial sector, the company said it would accelerate expansion and focus its resources where it finds strong growth potential, according to the release.
The president of the company, Takayuki Okada, said he remains committed to Macon-Bibb County, where it has been “a true home for the company, our employees, and their families,” according to the release.
“While this decision was extremely difficult, it is necessary to build a stronger foundation for long-term success,” Okada said. “Nichiha USA remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in Macon-Bibb County for many years to come.”
