Here's what's being done to improve affordable housing in the Macon area

Affordable housing is an area of concern for leaders in both Bibb County and nearby Warner Robins.

1. Macon-Bibb County pushed for new single-family homes in south Macon, creating a phased development to boost the local homeowning base. In July, the county was seeking a developer to build 10 single family homes to be constructed in three phases.

2. Earlier this month, Warner Robins started a workforce housing project, breaking ground on townhomes to support first-time buyers. The project includes eight single-story townhomes on Airman Boulevard just off U.S. Route 129.

3. Lastly, Macon Housing Authority released a survey in August to assess housing needs, aiming to guide future policy and development efforts.
