A call regarding an active shooter at Central Georgia Technical College Monday afternoon appears to have been unfounded, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the CGTC just after 1 p.m., stating there was an alleged active shooter on their Macon campus who was requesting an undisclosed amount of money, according to Sgt. Christopher Williams. If they were not given the money, they claimed they would “carry out acts of threats against the students here on the campus,” Williams said.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Georgia State Patrol, assisted campus police in clearing out the campus. The CGTC posted a notice on Facebook just before 1:50 p.m. for students at the Macon campus to shelter in place. But campus operations were resumed as normal within the hour, as deputies were unable to find suspects, violence or injuries, according to Williams.

As law enforcement were clearing out the Macon campus, a second call came from Rutland High School and the Board of Education Campus Police, who told the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office they received a call similar to the threat made at the CGTC, but the campus police of the high school determined “there were no injuries, no signs of an active shooting whatsoever, or any shot fired, period,” Williams said.

Williams said the incident was under investigation and a suspect in the fake call has not been identified yet.
