A woman is dead after a house fire broke out in the 3000 block of Pio Nono Avenue Monday evening, Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph.

The woman, identified as 63-year-old Linda Sanford, was pronounced dead about an hour after the fire started, after being rushed to the hospital.

The fire was mostly contained to a single bedroom and is being investigated as an accident, according to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department. No one else was in the house at the time of the fire and firefighters were able to quickly get it under control.

Because the fire was mostly contained to the one bedroom, that area took the brunt of the fire damage — although other areas of the house have smoke and water damage, the fire department said.
