What we know about Macon high school football fight that prompted investigation
County school officials are investigating after a rivalry football game between Southwest High School and Northeast High School ended with a fight breaking out on the field Friday, according to a statement from the Bibb County School District.
The game, which took place at Thompson Stadium off Shurling Drive, was called off partway through the third quarter, BCSD said. The district did not say whether the fight was between players, staff or spectators, or discuss how the fight started. BCSD also did not disclose if anyone was injured or arrested.
According to media reports covering the game as it unfolded, officials called multiple personal fouls and observed long stoppages for discussions.
BCSD and the Georgia High School Association — which oversees sporting events between schools across the state — are investigating the fight.
“Bibb County School District is committed to the safety of its students, employees, officials and spectators, and officials will be reviewing the incident,” BCSD said in an email to The Telegraph. “Any related on-field or off-field actions will be addressed according to District policy, as well as Georgia High School Association guidelines.”
GHSA had not responded to requests for comment at the time of this article’s publication.
When the game was called, Northeast was leading 30-8.
