Parents got into fights at Macon school, on school bus during first week of class, records say
Parents got into physical altercations in two separate incidents on a Bibb County School District bus and at Miller Fine Arts Magnet School during the first week of classes this month, records from Bibb County’s school police department show.
According to incident reports from the Bibb County Campus Police Department, both incidents occurred in the morning as students were arriving at school.
The first altercation occurred just before 9 a.m. at Miller Fine Arts Magnet School on Aug. 4, the first day of classes.
As parents were waiting in the carpool line to drop their children off, two parents struck each other’s cars. Both parents stepped out of their cars and fought before leaving the school, according to an incident report.
Officers couldn’t get a clear view of the parents on surveillance video, but a video of the fight circulated on social media helped police identify the parents, according to the report.
Both parents alleged the other was at fault for the fight, police records show. One parent also alleged the other stepped out of her car with a bat prior to the fight, according to the report.
Arrest warrants for both women were issued the following day on charges of affray, disorderly conduct and disruption of a public school. The parents turned themselves in, the report said.
The second altercation occurred just three days later, on Aug. 7.
According to an incident report, there was “some friction” between students riding a Bibb County school bus home the previous afternoon. The next morning, as students were boarding the bus around 7 a.m., three adults got onto the bus.
The adults allegedly began yelling at the students, with one of the adults shouting, “Don’t nobody mess with my son or niece!” The bus driver asked the parents to leave the bus, according to the report, but the adults ignored her and moved down the aisle toward the students.
A fight involving the three adults and three students on the bus allegedly then broke out.
Three adults were identified in the fight and charged with criminal trespass, disruption of public schools, insulting or abusing school personnel, affray, disorderly conduct, simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
No injuries were reported from either fight.
