One person has died and another is injured after a Macon crash that left one car engulfed in flames, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Log Cabin Drive, north of Meadowbrook Drive, and was called into 911 at 4:07 a.m. Saturday, deputies said.

Deputies said they found a Toyota Corolla on fire when they responded to the scene and a female driver who was unresponsive. A deputy got the driver out of the car. The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department helped get the second driver, a female in a Buick Enclave, out of her car as well.

“Both motorists sustained injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to a medical facility by paramedics for treatment,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “According to medical staff, both are listed in critical condition.”

The driver of the Corolla later died. The Bibb County Coroner’s Office identified her as JaNiecea Iman Smith. The other driver was listed in stable condition Saturday.

Deputies say both cars were driving opposite directions on Log Cabin Drive when the Corolla moved into the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on crash.

The road was shut down while officers investigated, but it has since reopened.

This collision was still under investigation later Saturday morning. Anyone with information was urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
