3 dead after drowning at Amerson River Park. What we know about the victims

Editor’s note: This story was updated after Bibb County officials clarified the spelling of the names of victims.

The three people who went missing while swimming at Amerson River Park Tuesday evening have been found dead, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

A 7-year-old girl, a 10-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man were found and confirmed dead Wednesday after officials spent hours searching Tuesday night, then Wednesday morning and afternoon.

The three went under the water and did not resurface, prompting a person to call 911 at 7:34 p.m. Tuesday to report the incident. A dive crew from the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department on Riverside was dispatched at 7:43 p.m., and arrived at the scene by 7:50 p.m., according to Chris Floore, chief communications officer for Macon-Bibb County.

2 victims were sisters

Two of the three victims were sisters, according to several family members who spoke with The Telegraph at the scene. Jones identified the 7-year-old girl as Summer Lewis. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office identified the girl with a different last name, saying it was McRae.

The 10-year-old was identified as Skyler Worthen.

Johnny ‘Yung’ Collins III

The 28-year-old man was identified as Johnny Collins III, according to Jones. Friends, family and coworkers say Collins often went by “Yung.”

Jonna Bae, a longtime friend of his, said Collins was a local DJ. Several family members and coworkers also said he worked at The Daisy Tequila Bar downtown.

Relatives of those who drowned Tuesday told The Telegraph that Collins was the boyfriend of the girls’ mom.

“He was a great father,” Bae said.

Bae also said the victims were wearing life jackets when they went under.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
