A man reportedly ran across a major Macon road and was fatally struck by a car Tuesday morning, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 911 call reported a traffic collision just before 6 a.m. on the 1600 block of Eisenhower Parkway, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the scene and found 27-year-old Jawarren Johnson “unresponsive,” the Bibb County Coroner’s Office said.

Deputies were told that a Chevrolet truck driver was going east on Eisenhower Parkway when he “struck a pedestrian running across the roadway,” the sheriff’s office said.

Johnson was taken to Atrium Health Navicent hospital where he died around 6:30 a.m. from “blunt force trauma” sustained in the crash, Coroner Leon Jones said.

Johnson’s family was notified of his death by 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, Jones told The Telegraph.

Anyone with information related to the crash was urged to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
