Free defensive driving class available for teens in Macon
An upcoming free program will teach Macon teenagers and young adults how to enhance their driving skills.
The defensive driving class, led by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s Outreach Section, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 26, at 774 Hazel St. in downtown Macon.
“The defensive driving class is designed to help teenagers make good, sound decisions on what to do while driving, how to avoid distractions and how to reduce the number of injuries and crashes that are associated with teen drivers,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Participants will practice on “driving simulators,” a news release from the sheriff’s office said.
Macon-Bibb County residents ages 15-20 years old with a valid driver’s license are eligible to register for the course.
Lunch will be provided for each participant at no cost.
The class does not count toward legal requirements to obtain a driver’s license, but “most insurance companies do offer a discount for taking this course,” deputies said.
“Registration is open until the class is full,” deputies said.
