Macon Pride photo exhibit will showcase 22 local LGBTQ+ pioneers. What to know.
Macon Pride will unveil a photo history exhibit early during Pride Month to celebrate more than a dozen leaders for the LGBTQ+ community in Middle Georgia, the group announced Wednesday.
This year’s installation of the annual Pioneers & Trailblazers Photo History Exhibit will debut at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon on June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Twenty-two pioneers, activists, and leaders will be celebrated in this year’s exhibit, Macon Pride said.
“Each year, the exhibit grows, recognizing new individuals and groups dedicated to advancing equality,” Macon Pride said in a news release. “In collaboration with Storyteller Macon, this year’s showcase will feature oral histories, presenting personal narratives that deepen our understanding of Middle Georgia’s LGBTQ+ culture and experiences.”
Among the people highlighted this year will be Marques Redd, a multimedia artist and co-founder of Rainbow Serpent, a nonprofit organization. Richard Frazier-Sostillio, executive and artistic director of Theatre Macon, also will be highlighted, Macon Pride said.
The event is being done as a partnership between Macon Pride, the Tubman Museum and Storyteller Macon.
