Warner Robins man dies in motorcycle crash in Macon, deputies investigate

A Warner Robins man died in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies temporarily shut down all lanes of traffic on Hawkinsville Road between Houston Avenue and Allen Road. The lanes were cleared by around 9 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies were dispatched to a 911 call regarding a “traffic collision” around 7:30 a.m. on Hawkinsville Road, north of the Allen Road intersection, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

David Christopher Lewis, the driver of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was traveling north on Hawkinsville Road when a 42-year-old Macon man in a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck allegedly turned left onto the road and collided with the motorcycle. The pickup truck was driving out of a gas station.

Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson pronounced Lewis, the 40-year-old motorcycle driver, dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Paramedics took the truck driver to a medical facility to treat his injuries. He was listed in stable condition shortly after the crash.

The fatal crash was under investigation Monday morning. Anyone with information related to the incident was urged to call the sheriff’s office and ask to speak with a fatality investigator at 478-751-7500.
