Free tax help available for senior citizens in Macon

Between now and April 15, AARP is offering free tax preparation three days a week in Macon.

The service is available from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Buck Melton Center, 150 Sessions Drive, in Macon each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The service primarily is for low- and middle-income senior citizens, according to a news release from the group. Those who use the service do not have to be AARP members.

Those needing the free help are asked to arrive with their photo identification as well as Social Security cards for themselves and any dependents they are claiming in the 2014 tax year. They also must bring proof of healthcare coverage for 2014 for themselves and their dependents, according to the release. Anyone with coverage bought through the Marketplace Exchange must also bring Form 1095-A.

Everyone also is asked to bring the previous year’s tax return.
