Heads up: Part of Macon’s Bass Road closing for 6 months while railroad bridge is rebuilt
A portion of Bass Road is closed for the next six months while a bridge going over a set of railroad tracks is rebuilt, the Georgia Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The affected area, which was closed on Monday, stretches between Rivoli Drive and Forsyth Road. The release said residents who live off the closed portion of Bass Road will still have access, but they will not be able to cross the bridge. Instead, they must enter on the side of the closure where they live.
GDOT also said in the release that a detour will be put in place and route traffic onto Forsyth Road and Rivoli Drive to avoid the closure.
The closure is part of a GDOT project to demolish and reconstruct a bridge and approaches over a set of train tracks. The bridge, which is 26 feet wide, will be replaced with a 43-foot wide bridge, according to plans on GDOT’s website. The improved bridge will also be higher to meet minimum clearance requirements over the railroad.
