Highway crash leaves 1 pedestrian dead, 1 injured in Crawford County, deputies say

A pedestrian died and another was injured in a crash on Highway 42 Monday night, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 p.m. between Hays Farm Road near the Crawford-Monroe County line, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old Atlanta woman, later identified as Brittaney Nicole McDowell, who had been hit by a vehicle. McDowell was pronounced dead on the scene by Crawford County Coroner Sheldon Mattox, according to the news release. Family was notified of her death.

Another pedestrian hit by a vehicle, a 24-year-old man, was taken via Community Ambulance Service to Atrium Navicent Health Macon to treat his injuries, deputies said.

Georgia State Patrol and the sheriff’s office were still investigating the incident Tuesday.
