Driver accidentally accelerates while moving vehicle, kills elderly man in Perry
A person mistakenly accelerated while moving a car and hit an elderly man at a home in Perry on Sunday, causing the man to die, according to the Perry Police Department.
“An elderly family member (attempted) to move a vehicle out of the garage” then “inadvertently shifted the vehicle into drive instead of reverse,” police said in a news release.
Police described it as an “accidental” crash.
Perry police and fire departments responded and attempted to save the elderly victim’s life on the scene after he suffered severe injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead at Perry Hospital.
Georgia State Patrol and police were still investigating the incident Tuesday.
