Arrowhead Park and Claystone Park campgrounds along Lake Tobesofkee will be closed until the spring of 2025 for upgrades, according to a release from Macon-Bibb County.

Claystone’s campground closed on Nov. 4, and Arrowhead’s campground will close on Dec. 4. The rest of the park areas will remain open.

The upgrades will include new landscape timbers and gravel, electrical boxes and in-ground and above ground water hookups, the release said. The county is also going to replace the asphalt pads the RVs park on with concrete pads, and add a total of nine docks to the campgrounds that will be available for people staying to use.

The upgrades are estimated to cost around $600,000 and will be paid for through special purpose local option sales tax money, commonly referred to as SPLOST. SPLOST is a 1% sales tax that counties vote on to go toward local projects.

The county held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, and construction was underway Thursday.

“This construction is going to help us attract more campers to Lake Tobo because it’s going to greatly improve their experience here,” says Lake Tobesofkee Director Donald Bracewell. “They’ll have better access to water and electricity, and the pads will be much more durable and easier to set up on.”
