After announcing the closure of the Kimchi Factory in downtown Macon, owner Miyang Rutherford is now attempting to keep her beloved Korean restaurant afloat.

The restaurant in the old Len Berg’s on Walnut Street was expected to close its doors for good Saturday after just four years in operation.

Instead, the restaurant posted on its Facebook page plans to remain open for “a bonus week.”

Rutherford said Monday that she’s going to try to keep the restaurant open indefinitely to pay off both business and personal debts and avoid bankruptcy.

“I have to try my best,” she said.

Rutherford also is considering selling the restaurant or having someone take it over, and expressed a willingness to train employees. She leases the restaurant space.

If she could get back on her feet, she’d prefer to remain the owner and stay open. She believes the restaurant has the potential for franchising.

Restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The last call for orders daily is 7:30 p.m. The restaurant’s number is 478-305-7078.
