The teacher of a former Twiggs County High School student who was shot and killed remembered him as a smart student who sought to resolve conflicts.

The fatal shooting happened Aug. 2 in the 900 block of Dorothy Street. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found 19-year-old Hunter Hall “suffering from a gunshot wound lying in the driveway,” according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office press release. Hall was pronounced dead on the scene.

Reginald Cordy, Dublin High School ninth grade academy principal, was Hall’s eighth grade social studies teacher at Twiggs County Middle School.

Cordy described Hall’s graduating cohort as a “smart, special group of students” because they helped make a big jump in the school’s passing rate.

Despite having worked in education for 20 years, Cordy said Hall was his only former Twiggs County student he knew who died as a result of gun violence.

“That’s one of the things I’ve always preached to my students about making sure they do the right thing because life is short,” Cordy said. “When I heard the news, it was tough because how could you do that to a person who was just beginning to live life?”

Bibb County deputies arrested 18-year-old Dominque Brezial in connection to the death of Hall, authorities announced Aug. 5 in a press release.

Brezial was booked on charges of murder at the Bibb County Jail.

Hall graduated from Twiggs County High School in 2023, according to a grieving announcement the Twiggs County School District posted on Facebook earlier this month that encouraged the community to keep his family uplifted.

Hall was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and Art Clubs while attending high school, the post says.

Cordy said he remembered Hall nagging him a lot in class, but couldn’t help but to love him due to his caring personality and desire to learn.

“He was going to be the class clown, but when it came down to business, Hunter worked. He was intelligent,” he said. “When there were conflicts in the classroom, Hunter was that student who would get in between people and get them to calm down and respect one another.”

Hall’s funeral service was held at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home in Macon on Aug. 17.
