1 dead, child flown to a hospital after a Monroe County crash, sheriff’s office says
One person is dead and a 9-year-old has been flown to a nearby hospital after a crash in Monroe County Sunday evening, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported around 7 p.m. in the area of Old Cabiness Road and Highway 83, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies arrived to find an Acura MDX and a tractor-trailer had been involved in a crash.
The driver of the Acura, Jeffery Mathis, of Dooly County, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 9-year-old was a passenger in the Acura and was flown to Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
The driver of the tractor trailer truck was taken to a Macon hospital.
The accident was still under investigation Monday.
