Macon motorcyclist dead after collision on Columbus Road. What we know

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of Columbus Road and Cavalier Drive just after 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A motorcyclist going west on Columbus Road collided with the driver of a BMW X3 turning onto Columbus Road from Cavalier Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Paramedics responded to the scene and took the motorcyclist to Atrium Navicent Healthcare to be treated for his injuries, but he later died.

The motorcyclist was identified as Willard Owen Gilbow, 49, of Macon. He was pronounced dead by Coroner Leon Jones. No one else was injured during the collision.

The collision was under investigation Tuesday morning.
