Man hit by car dies weeks after crash, Bibb County coroner says
A man who was struck by a car in north Macon last month died Friday after spending nearly three weeks in a local hospital.
Christopher Lipman’s death marked the 15th pedestrian killed on roads in Bibb County in 2023.
The 44-year-old was running across the five-lane Arkwright Road on the night of Dec. 17 when he was struck by a Honda Civic near Sheraton Drive, just east of Interstate 75, according to a report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
A Hancock County man at the wheel of the car said he tried to avoid hitting Lipman but was unable to, the report said. A witness told the officer there was “no way” the driver could have avoided the crash.
Lipman, no address given, was unconscious and had been loaded into an ambulance when a sheriff’s lieutenant arrived at the scene nearly an hour after the crash, the report said. Lipman was listed in the report as being at fault.
