Man found dead under bridge on I-475 at Mercer University Drive, deputy coroner says
A Macon man was found dead Monday morning underneath the bridge at Mercer University on Interstate 475, according to Bibb County deputy coroner Luanne Stone.
The man, 76, died sometime Sunday night or early Monday before he was found dead on the northbound side of I-475, Stone said.
The coroner’s office received the call at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and Stone declared the man dead at about 11:15 a.m.
Stone said it was unclear whether the man jumped off of the bridge He was hit by a car underneath the bridge. The man’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of relatives.
Stone said investigators found a shopping cart on the bridge above that may have belonged to the man. Stone also went to the man’s listed address and learned from neighbors that he lived alone.
“From talking to neighbors, he did not have a car, he walked everywhere,” Stone said.
More details were not immediately available and the death remains under investigation.
