Macon man killed after losing control of car on I-75 South near Mercer University
A Macon man was killed early Sunday morning after he lost control of his car while heading south on Interstate 75 near Mercer University Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The wreck happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when Tyree Harris, 25, lost control of his Toyota Camry while he drove near the on-ramp at Mercer University Drive, a sheriff’s office news release read.
Harris hit the guardrail after he lost control. The crash ejected him from the sedan and he died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Harris was the only person injured in the crash.
Harris’ relatives were were notified by Bibb Deupty Coroner Lonnie Miley, the news release said. It was unclear what might have caused Harris to lose control of the car.
The fatal crash on I-75 was the first of two serious collisions Sunday, with the second involving a pedestrian later that night.
The second collision happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Arkwright Road near River Place Drive just off Riverside Drive in north Macon, according to a news release. A man, 25, was driving east on Arkwright when he hit a pedestrian, police said
The pedestrian, 45, was taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition Monday morning, according to the news release. The victim’s identity was not released.
Both collisions were under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
