WATCH: Driver escapes with seconds to spare before train crashes into car in Monroe County

A train crashed into a car Friday morning in Monroe County after the car got stuck on the tracks, but the driver escaped unharmed, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened at about 8:30 a.m. in a rural area of Monroe County between Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 northwest of Forsyth.

It was unclear in the press release what might have caused the car to stall, but the backside of the sedan appears to be hanging off the road in a video sent by the sheriff’s office.

The video also shows several cars are parked behind the stalled sedan as the train approaches. The driver gets out of the car about 12 seconds before the collision.

A similar train wreck in the same area near the intersection of Collier Road and Little Collier Road killed three people in 2021 when an SUV got stuck on the tracks.
