A local woman is in jail on charges that she “mishandled” payments from tenants at an east Macon affordable housing apartment complex.

Crystal Denise Brown, 36 of Macon, was arrested Tuesday. She faces 104 counts of theft by conversion and forgery in the third degree, as well as 12 counts of computer forgery. Brown was still held in the Bibb County jail Wednesday afternoon, with no bond set.

Brown was apparently responsible for handling money order payments from tenants at McAfee Towers on Gray Highway, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s office. The high rise has 199 units, according to the Macon Housing Authority.

Brown had previously been arrested on forgery and theft charges, according to court records.
