Ocmulgee Mounds in east Macon close Friday after report of armed man, police say

The Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in east Macon closed for the afternoon Friday after receiving reports of an armed man in the park, police said.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in around noon about a man with a gun inside the park. Deputies responded and began searching for the individual, but did not find them.

The park reopened Saturday The park is typically open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, and the sheriff’s office did not provide a suspect description.
