A Lizella man died in a motorcycle crash Monday morning when he collided with a car on Mercer University Drive in Macon, officials said.

John William Vinson III, 56, was riding his motorcycle east on Mercer University Drive near the Columbus Road split when he crashed into a car while in the turning lane.

The crash happened at around 10 a.m. as the car was turning left from Arlington Park, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

An ambulance took Vinson to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by deputy coroner Luann Stone. His next of kin were notified, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The collision is still under investigation.
